i'm troubled by an increasing number of encounters with outright cheating in technical subjects online. usually these show up as i'm browsing for technical gigs, typically on craigslist.org or other contract-searching sites. often, they'll either be in the form of someone seeking to pay somebody for doing a take-home exam, or homework. occasionally i have seen people advertising to provide such services to students.
i challenged a student seeking such services recently, saying it was not only unethical but, if they somehow managed to pass the course with credentials they could give people having earned the credentials properly a bad name. the student responded saying they knew perfectly well it was unethical and that, basically, i should mind my own business.
anyone have any experience with this?
